In Michigan, park rangers will help you spot elks as they tackle, wade and swim, the waters of the Isle Royale National Park. In the evening the air will be pervaded by the original serenade composed by the calls of the tyrants and the howls of the wolves.

For a unique experience, go to Everglades National Park, Florida, an extraordinary sanctuary for local wildlife and the largest untouched subtropical territory in the continental United States. As the entire park is covered by water, it has developed an ideal habitat for herons, sea turtles, manatees, alligators, crocodiles, and even dolphins. To take the best pictures, be sure to take a ranger on a guided tour of the tram or rent bicycles with which to travel the 15 miles (less than 25 kilometers) of the track that runs through the Shark Valley.

Winter Sports

Whether you love skiing, snowboarding or simply relaxing in the cozy ambiance of your chalet during the colder and stormy days, Killington, Vermont, is a perfect destination. With six peaks to explore, this is the largest winter sports resort in New England. The novice skiers will prefer Snowshed, while the more experienced will have fun at Bear Mountain and The Canyon.

Each of the States crossed by the Rockies offers famous holiday resorts such as Sun Valley in Idaho, Big Sky in Montana, Aspen, Vail and Telluride in Colorado, Jackson Hole in Wyoming and Park City and Alta in Utah. Beyond the ski slopes, you will find miles of trails that you can walk wearing snowshoes, cross-country skis or snowmobiles.

Its geographical location apparently out of place does not prevent the Taos Ski Valley, a Bavarian-style ski resort in New Mexico, to attract snow lovers in the Southwest of the United States. It includes a renowned winter sports school for beginners but also breathtaking descents with signs with an eloquent message: “Don’t ‘Panic!” (“No Panic!”).

For a pure adrenaline rush, head to Squaw Valley, the place where snowboarding and extreme skiing were born in the United States. Located above Lake Tahoe, near the California-Nevada border, this resort also offers easy and intermediate-level runs, as well as snow-tubing facilities (rafting), ice-skating and bungee jumping.
